Does the vehicle run on gasoline or is it battery powered?

The answer to this is, both. Then engine runs in EV (Electric Vehicle) mode, and extended range (meaning gasoline). The Volt can run an average of 35 miles on an electric charge alone, then extended range will kick in for distances longer than 35 miles.

How long, and often, will I have to charge the Chevy Volt?

According to GM and Chevy this electric car does best when charged every day, though it’s not require as it has a full-sized gas tank. Or, you can choose to install a 240v socket in your home and charge in as little as 4 hours.

The Volt was designed to be driven gas-free and emissions-free. So, gas might sit in the tank for quite some time. Chevy’s answer to this issue is a maintenance warning that will tell you to run the engine every 6 weeks for peak performance and to lube the engine. This car comes equipped with a special pressurized tank that will ensure gas lasts for 365 days. Additionally, it will alert you to run the engine, use gasoline, and that it’s time to add fresh gasoline to your tank.

Chevrolet has become synonymous with quality automotive design and for a lot of fans the Corvette is their flagship car. GM specifically designed the 2012 Chevrolet Sonic to show customers that a subcompact could be a segment leader in the area of safety and they more than achieved their goal. The Sonic was recently tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s newly revised car assessment program  and it received a five star rating.

The Sonic was built to help its driver avoid a crash but when it cannot, its remarkably strong body structure will help to minimize the damage.  The Sonic’s body is formed from 60% high strength steel and it includes a single weld side ring unit for enhanced durability.

To further protect its occupants, the Sonic includes these safety features:

• A panic brake assist that kicks in when an emergency braking maneuver is attempted. Power assisted front and rear drum brakes with ABS and full traction control are also included.
• Dual stage front air bags for the driver and front passenger, head curtain side air bags, knee air bags, seat mounted side pelvic air bags and more side impact airbags for people in the rear seat. This means that there are a whopping ten airbags on board for optimum occupant protection.
• Rollover sensors, which activate head curtain side airbags in the event that you flip your car. Since a rollover does not happen as quickly as a fender bender, these airbags stay inflated for a longer duration to provide you with as much protection as possible.
• An Onstar system with the automatic crash response system.
• The StabiliTrak stability control system which comes very close to driving the car itself. This system will monitor the path you want to be steering and compare it to where you are actually steering. Then it will make adjustments by applying the brake, increasing or decreasing the throttle.

The Sonic is the 10^th 2012 GM model to achieve a 5 star safety rating and these are under the stricter conditions set by NHTSA in 2011.  The safety tests now include a test that simulates a twenty mile an hour side impact crash into a 10 inch diameter tree just behind the A pillar on the driver’s side. So if you are looking for a subcompact that can stand up to incredible amounts of damage while keeping you safe, the only real choice is a Sonic.

Instead Chevy is being very tight lipped about the identity of their new car, only saying that it is a vehicle based on a brand new nameplate and that fans will learn more about both the race and production version in the coming year.

There has been a lot of speculation among fans as to what the new car will be. Many believe that it will be the Chevrolet Caprice which up until now has only been available as a police vehicle. If it is the Caprice, will it have the coveted SS attached and what will be its new name?
