The first Malibu was a subseries of the Chevrolet Chevelle built from 1964 to 1972. The Malibu was sold in various bodystyles. Of these bodystyles were included a four-door sedan, and even a station wagon. Interiors were a reminder of more high-end models due to various cloth and vinyl upholstery. Two of the first models came in all-vinyl. Many different car buyer were drawn to the Chevy Malibu due to its multiple, practical applications. As the years went on, the same assortment of bodystyles were continued with a few styling adjustments reminiscent of the Chevelle. In 1967 the Malibu station wagon rolled off the assembly line with faux-wood trim. Front disc brakes were an option not available before. Music lovers were also able to purchase the Malibu which included a stereo 8-track tape player.
Since 1964 there have been seven generations of the Chevy Malibu. The Malibu was reengineered in 2008 to be the most ambitious generation yet. The 2008 model was brought to life by Bryan Nesbitt. Fresh ideas in engineering and function went into the remodeling of the new Chevy Malibu. The idea was to bring a brave design in union with the traditional ideas first used when developing the Malibu. Chevrolet didn't want to lose what first brought car buyers into showroom in the 1960's. Those who were a fan of the Chevy Malibu then are sure to also fall in the love with the new models. That is the whole idea when Chevy announced its seventh generation was ready for viewing. Auto shows around the country showcased the Malibu and America cheered.
